Courtney Owings

MA, Clinician

Courtney received her master’s degree from Appalachian State University in Marriage and Family therapy and has over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field.  Courtney is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist, a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, and a is a clinical supervisor for provisionally licensed marriage and family therapists.  

Courtney comes to us from the public mental health system where she provided mobile crisis management, outpatient services, and intensive in-home services.  She also worked at the Buncombe County Detention Center where she has worked closely with first responders and detention staff. She focuses on providing quality therapy using empirically based treatments including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Trauma Focus Cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CBT).  Throughout her years of experience, Courtney has worked with individuals struggling with mood disorders, psychosis, trauma, and substance use disorders.  

Courtney is one of our embedded therapists working at Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, Buncombe County EMS, and Henderson County Rescue Squad.  She is also a clinician on the Western North Carolina Peer Support Network, and trained to participate in debriefings, defusing’s and crisis management briefings to support and deliver specialized post-critical incident services to emergency personnel in Western North Carolina.
