David McMurray, CMHC
Clinical Intern
David is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Liberty University. He is expected to graduate in December of 2025. Upon graduation, David will apply to the State of North Carolina for licensure as a clinical mental health counselor associate (LCMHC-A). He currently holds a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from Liberty University and a BS in Criminal Justice, which he obtained through Western Carolina University.
David has been a sworn Law Enforcement Officer since 1995, and has served in an LEO capacity as a Deputy Sheriff and as a North Carolina State Trooper. He has approximately 18 years of active full time Law Enforcement service time, and he is still sworn as an inactive reserve through a North Carolina Sheriff. David has spent approximately 10 years deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq as a contractor to the United States Government for both the Department of Defense and the Department of State.
Due to David’s history as a First Responder, he understands the toll that the job can take on an individual. His focus is on assisting first responder personnel in obtaining and/or maintaining mental wellness. RSS’s focus on the First Responder community is what drew him to pursue an internship with them.
David respects the autonomy of his clients and their own personal values and beliefs. His theoretical approach leans into cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). David is also willing and capable of integrating Biblical principles with a Christ-centered focus into the treatment process for those that request such integration.
